This work is a haiga, a fusion of Japanese painting and haiku, featuring the early spring blooming of the jyukuri (bokeh) flower. The vermilion flowers and young leaves painted with delicate brushwork quietly announce the arrival of spring. The beautiful flow of the branches and margins evoke the soft breath of nature, leaving a subdued yet profoundly lingering impression. The accompanying haiku, “Spring Breeze, Miyanami’s Doors Swinging Temporarily in the Spring Breeze,” describes how the shrine’s doors swing temporarily in the spring breeze, and together with the painting skillfully expresses the spring scene. The entire work exudes dignity and warmth.
